You can think of the Sub-Report Tool as a window onto another page in the report. When your report is generated, data from these pages will print inside the Sub-Report object instead of printing as separate pages. Sub-Reports allow you to create complex reports that draw data from multiple tables.

To add a Sub-Report to your report, use the mouse to draw a rectangle where you would like the data to appear. When you add a Sub-Report a special linked sub-report page is created automatically. Use the page tabs at the bottom of the Report Designer screen to switch to the sub-report page and add the desired Partitions and Text/Field objects. Sub-Reports have the following limitations:

  • Do not use columns.
  • Do not use Report Title, Report Summary, Page Header, Page Footer, Column Header, Column Footer, Group Header or Group Footer Partitions.
  • Do not use the Partition's "Page break after" option.
